Yemen is currently going through one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. After nearly nine years of intense conflicts, over 24 million people in Yemen, including 13 million children, require humanitarian assistance. This represents nearly three-quarters of the population!
According to the latest estimates, 2.2 million Yemeni children suffer from malnutrition, with nearly 540,000 children under the age of 5 experiencing severe acute malnutrition, fighting for their survival. According to the United Nations, hundreds of children under the age of 5 die every day due to the lack of access to food and medicine.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation has further deteriorated. Half of the healthcare facilities have been destroyed since the beginning of the conflict. People in Yemen are dying not only from malnutrition but also from various diseases such as cholera, dengue fever, malaria, and many others.
At the same time, Yemen is facing a severe education crisis that will have long-term consequences for children. Two million of them no longer attend school, and the number of children whose education is disrupted could increase as at least a quarter of the countryās schools have been destroyed or partially damaged.
